Welcome to the SLVFD Inc. website

Located 8 miles north of Reno, Nevada, Silver Lake is near the intersection of Highway 395 and Red Rock Road. The nearby residential areas of Silver Knolls and the Red Rock community overlook the lake and Stead Airport.

To use the Community Room at the Fire House, contact Maureen O'Brien at 775-328-3605 or volunteerprogramlead@tmfpd.us  The Fire House Community Room address is 11525 Red Rock Road, Reno, NV 89508. Download and print out the Station Use Permit.

Open burning... Beginning January 1, 2020, residents who live in the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District (TMFPD) will be allowed to pile burn green waste with an approved burn permit, limited by weather, and as long as Washoe County Air Quality Division has designated a Green Day.  Burning will be allowed for the first seven days of each month, and until further notice, usually by May.

Green Waste Days 2019

Residents brought yard waste and tree trimmings. Over 100+ loads of green waste arrived each day of the 4 days! Hosted by TMFPD and the Silver Knolls Volunteer Firefighters.



There were several Green Waste Days in 2017 & 2018 at the SLVFD fire house, hosted by the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District. Local residents brought tree trimmings and the like to be chipped up by the BLM and later used for mulch.


Fire proof your property... On Saturday, August 13th Volunteer Fire fighter Dale Hildebrandt gave a presentation with handouts, on Living with Fire!

Wildfire, 7 miles north of Silver Knolls, the night of August 6, burned 1700 acres, mostly on Goldstone Road, stretching down from the top of Cold Springs. There were only a few evacuations and no structures were lost.

2016 open burning is now closed, as of April 20, 2016.

Reflective address signs are still available. Call Nancy at 775-225-3784 and leave a message. In an emergency, if the fire department or ambulance needs to find your house these signs are a huge help, day or night.



Junk the Junipers: Sponsored by Living with Fire, BLM, UNR Co-operative Extension and our SLVFD, a wood chipper was on scene at the Silver Lake Volunteer Fire station May 21, 2016. Each individual load of resident's yard waste was chipped up and the 'mulch' was given back to the resident, if wanted.

Mission statement:
The purpose of this Company shall be the promotion of social welfare and educational development within the Silver Knolls and Red Rock area communities.  The Company also shall assist in providing fire protection and emergency medical services to the same citizens when contracted with a parent organization.
